The German hardcore scene is rather little known in France, put aside Heaven Shall Burn and Fear My Thoughts
(even if their last album sounds more death metal than hardcore!), there are not many bands
who manage to create a great reputation in France...
Coltan Leech is a young formation based in Landshut, a city located not very far from Munich,
who like(as us) at the head the American references of the genre, Botch and Will Haven...
Catacombs, their first demo, of obedience post-hardcore/metal, is a perfect digestion of these influences...
The first two titles ("Wormsuit "and" Biot") are very recognizable plaintive songs
with strong emotional content thanks to the melodic voice of Bruce. The rhythmic section
gives in the heaviness (thanks to the quite loud bass) while the melody still remains.
This very atmospheric rhythmic base affirmes the sound identity of Coltan Leech.
"Cataphiles" shows another facet of the band. Indeed the substitution of the singer a.k.a. Fabian,
the guitarist/singer, imprints the track with his howls that reminds of Isis or Mastodon .
Lastly, "Savant" closes this demo with a synthesis of what we have just heard,
a meeting of the two voices on the same title, equivalent to the three other songs in terms of quality.
Excellently produced, this demo is mostly successful. It should be noted that little time after
the recording of "Catacombs", Bruce, the singer, decided to leave the group... This will not stop the
other members of the band, since they currently prepare a new demo, announced to be more
atmospheric and intense... that gives already desire!
